About

Assoc Prof Chris Jones is a triple-fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with a PhD from the University of Western Australia in surgery, pathology and biomechanical engineering.

Assoc Prof Jones is proud to have returned to Western Australia in July 2018 to take up a position as an orthopaedic Visiting Medical Officer at Fiona Stanley, Fremantle and Rockingham General Hospitals.

He works privately through Orthopaedics WA at St John of God Hospital Murdoch and The Mount Hospital where he resides on the board of the Medical Advisory Committee as the Orthopaedic Representative.

Research and Teaching

He continues to develop multidisciplinary research interests as the recipient of numerous research grants and has been appointed Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Curtin University.

Assoc Prof Jones is Co-Director of the Orthopaedic Research Foundation of Western Australia (ORFWA), Co-Supervisor of the Fremantle & Perth Arthroplasty Fellowshipand Primary Supervisor of the Fremantle Arthroplasty Research Fellowship. His long-term vision is to establish a centre of excellence in which the quest for a truly biological joint replacement can be created by marrying the technologies of robotic-assisted surgery, cellular engineering and 3D printing.

Assoc Prof Jones has presented at numerous regional, national and international conferences and regularly chairs sessions and is an invited speaker at Orthopaedic meetings worldwide. He has authored three book chapters and published more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals with numerous other publications in the preparatory phase (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Christopher_Jones45/publications).

Assoc Prof Jones is actively involved in the teaching of medical students and trainees at all levels as acknowledged by his appointment during as a clinical academic at Weill Cornell Medical College, NYC, as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Central Medical School, University of Sydney and Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Curtin University Medical School. Assoc Prof Jones’s research interests include: articular cartilage repair/regeneration, matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation, bioscaffolds, bioengineering and cellular engineering in addition to revision arthroplasty and complex limb reconstruction, design and manufacture of custom orthopaedic implants and prostheses and retrieval analysis of arthroplasty devices and orthopaedic implants.

Personal

Happily married to Dr Kharis Burns (Endocriniologist) and the proud father of two young sons, Assoc Prof Chris Jones is a dedicated, hardworking, diligent and enthusiastic Orthopaedic Surgeon who is committed to training future generations of orthopaedic surgeons and biomechanical engineers.

Most importantly he continues to cherish a sense of wonder, privilege and excitement towards biomedical engineering, the practice of orthopaedic surgery and the care of his patients.
